Rome

On May 29 and 30, the Holy See will host the international meeting “Maps of Hope for a Regional Educational Agenda: Mental Health, Digital Technologies and Education,” a joint initiative of the Dicastery for Culture and Education, the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, and the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI).

The meeting will bring together ministers of education from Ibero-American countries, along with experts, academics, and representatives of international organizations, with the aim of reflecting on the principal contemporary educational challenges linked to mental health, the impact of digital technologies and the development of public policies oriented toward the comprehensive well-being of new generations. This initiative seeks to build bridges to address current cultural challenges, the care of human dignity “in all its grandeur” and the development of peoples, in line with the recent Encyclical Letter Magnifica humanitas.

The event takes place within the framework of the cooperation between the Holy See and the OEI in response to the call of the Global Compact on Education and follows the guidelines of Pope Leo XIV’s Apostolic Letter Drawing New Maps of Hope, that proposes building a “global educational constellation” focused on human dignity, cultivating an inner life, public ethics, and the responsible use of technologies and artificial intelligence.

The initiative seeks to consolidate a regional space of dialogue and knowledge production that will contribute to the development of innovative strategies and public policies capable of addressing the challenges facing education systems in the 21st century, especially at the intersection of mental health, education, and digital transformation.

The sessions will address topics such as the strengthening of socio-emotional skills, the promotion of safe and inclusive school environments, digital citizenship, technological inclusion, and the role of education as a privileged space for democratic dialogue, cooperation and the building of peace.

The cooperation between the Dicastery for Culture and Education, the Pontifical Commission for Latin America and the Organization of Ibero-American States seeks to promote coordinated responses to emerging challenges affecting educational communities throughout the region.
