The Building Bridges Initiative, inspired by the Magisterial principle of a “Church that goes forth” (Evangelii Gaudium) and by the synodal path of “walking together,” was created to bring together ecclesial and secular communities in a shared task: fostering a logic of care as a guarantee of peace.
In this mission, the true bridge-builders are the communities themselves, configured as living networks within their territories: universities; organized labor (trade unions and business associations); urban communities and popular movements; episcopal conferences and international organizations; together with subnational governments.
Following Pope Francis’ teaching to “turn passion into community action and organize hope,” these networks become spaces of encounter and inclusion, capable of transforming social and cultural bonds.
The PCAL, in its vocation as a “field hospital,” with the support of His Holiness Francis and his successor, Pope Leo XIV, promotes and encourages this initiative, making bridges of inclusion, reconciliation, and fraternity a concrete experience of mercy, capable of “touching the suffering flesh of Christ in the People” (Praedicate Evangelium, §1).
