Episcopal Bridges of Fraternity

Episcopal Bridges of Fraternity is an initiative that seeks to reach out, connect, and communicate among Ibero-American communities through projects promoted by ecclesial, governmental, and secular networks, fostering joint actions in favor of the care of Our Common Home and the building of peace. From this space, collaborative work is encouraged among episcopal conferences, episcopates, universities, media outlets, and diverse territorial organizations, grounded in the conviction that only dialogue and cooperation can provide effective responses to shared challenges.

The Episcopal Bridge of Fraternity among Major Cities seeks to foster dialogue between bishops and communities from different regions. Transformations depend on community-based articulation because, as Pope Francis states in Fratelli Tutti, “change comes from the depths of the planet.”

This initiative brings together bishops, theologians, and communicators from major Ibero-American cities who, through North–South dialogue, aim to launch a shared itinerary inspired by previous experiences developed in the United States. The collaboration of institutions such as the Scalabrini International Migration Institute (SIMI), the Pontifical Commission for Latin America (PCAL), and various continental networks provides academic, pastoral, and community-based solidity to this process in the making.

The ultimate goal is to generate a process of fraternity that, in fidelity to the Church’s social magisterium, builds bridges between existential peripheries and promotes joint work beyond borders. In this way, archbishops of major cities, in their dual role as pastors and academic and social leaders, can open pathways of inclusion and hope, strengthening communication between the Church and civil society for the benefit of the common good.
